One of the most exciting events in a person’s life, is the birth of a baby. People plan and save for just such an event. Couples wait nine months in anticipation of what their baby will look like, and who he or she will become. Even choosing the correct name for the new baby may become a huge family issue, involving great planning.

It is seriously unnecessary to break the bank in preparing for the arrival of a new baby. Unfortunately, many inexperienced parents are unaware of this fact, and find themselves spending way too much. Remember, this child will not be an infant forever. They will only become more expensive.

When planning this budget, any unnecessary purchases must be eliminated. Seriously, does the new baby need fifty dollar sneakers that they probably should not even be wearing? Save that money for the future, you will need it.

Baby photos are a good example. Just about every hospital offers these expensive, not always quite so adorable photo packages. The truth of the matter is that just about any parent with a decent camera can achieve equal quality, and frequently even better photos, at a fraction of the cost. What about the changing table? Why do people still buy these? This is indeed a large expense for an item that will be used so infrequently. A lot of people purchase a changing table because they believe it completes the nursery, and then never even use it. What a waste of hard earned cash.

Try to ask yourself if an item will actually be used. Be honest with yourself. Just because something is cute, does not mean that we need it. Most parents keep a newborn in their own bedroom to sleep, at least at the beginning. Why bother to waste money stocking the nursery with things that will only go unused?

One seriously important and valuable investment is in a wireless baby monitor. Most of these can be moved throughout the house, and come with a clip on listening device. This ensures that no matter where parents are in the house, they will always hear a waking baby.

Diapers, diapers, diapers. It can not be said enough. As a new parent, you will begin to feel as though you eat, sleep, and breath diapers. This will indeed be one of the largest expenses in caring for a baby. Perhaps not a bad time to consider using cloth. Other than diapers, there are few items which are necessary to care for your newborn. You will need a crib obviously. The baby will need clothes of course, just do not over do it, remember how fast they grow. A car seat, a stroller, and a few cute baby bath toys, and you are pretty much good to go.

Keep in mind, as excited as you are, this is only the beginning. The expenses will continue. So exercise self control, and spend wisely.
